BOTD: August 19, 2019 Great-tailed Grackle

The day I watched the seagulls playing king of the hill, I was sitting on a concrete block. I turned around for a few minutes and right behind me on another block with this beautiful grackle. His feathers were bluer than any grackle I had seen before, maybe because I had not been this close to one before, but I think my camera settings may have accentuated the blue a little more than it actually was in reality.

SMM Challenge August 19, 2019

When I first saw it, I thought the bee was dead. I touched the side of the butternut squash blossom and he started slowly moving around. I am convinced that he was taking a nap. He moved around a little, and then went right back to what he was doing -sleeping! He stayed there for most of the day! I began to think that he might be sick or dying, but he was gone that evening, and back napping the next day!

Friendly Friday Photo Challenge -Remote: The Badlands

Several years ago, we went on a trip with our youngest daughter’s family to South Dakota to visit Mt. Rushmore. We did not realize all the things that are available to see in South Dakota. One of the magnificent sites we visited was the Badlands. At the entrance to the National Park, we saw Prairie Dogs peeking out from their holes and checking us out. When we actually entered the park, the views were amazing. There were layered rocks, canyons, grasslands and spires. As we continued our drive, we saw bighorn sheep right along the side of the road. Apparently, in some locations there are also bison although we did not see any of them in the park, but did in the Black Hills.
